Our commitment to Reconciliation
Virgin Australia Group has long been committed to sustainable employment outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and has proudly supported many community organisations dedicated to improving education, social and health outcomes.
In 2009, we first launched an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Strategy, and since that time have contributed to developing the careers of over 200 First Nations people.
In 2018 our Indigenous Working Group (IWG) was established to support our commitment to delivering opportunities with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The extraordinary dedication of these team members from across divisions, who volunteered their involvement, has enabled us to develop a Reconciliation Action Plan that is meaningful and builds on what we have achieved over the past 10 years.
Over the last 12 months we have shifted focus to our RAP and how this plan can generate long-term economic and social opportunities in our business and the greater Australian community.
Virgin Australia’s RAP is a key part of our rejuvenated and revamped Diversity and Inclusion program called ‘Belonging.’ An important part of this plan kicking off in 2022 is to strengthen our IWG to include all parts of the business and value chain. This will give more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within the business the chance to voice their views and visions for reconciliation at Virgin Australia.
