Tuesday, 8 April 2025: Virgin Australia is stepping up to meet strong Easter holiday travel demand with more than 400,000 seats scheduled across its domestic and short-haul international network in the lead up to and during the Easter long weekend[1].

Flight bookings show Queenstown, Fiji, and Vanuatu are the most popular short-haul international destinations with Perth, Cairns, Hamilton Island, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, and Tasmania remaining top choices for those opting to stay closer to home.
More flights, more choice
Over the Easter long weekend, Virgin Australia will operate an average of 418 flights per day with additional services operated on popular domestic routes over the peak, including:
- Adelaide > Canberra, Hobart, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney;
- Brisbane > Cairns, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney;
- Canberra > Melbourne, Gold Coast and Sydney;
- Melbourne > Cairns, Darwin, Hamilton Island, Perth and Sydney; and
- Sydney > Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Perth.
Extra services will also be operated on popular short-haul international routes including Brisbane to Port Vila and Queenstown, Sydney to Queenstown, and Melbourne to Queenstown.
Preparation for the peak
To keep travel running smoothly, Virgin Australia has optimised its operations to ensure more aircraft are available to fly over the peak period while also ensuring increased recovery options in the case of unforeseen disruption.
The airline’s Guest Ambassador Program has returned for a third year which sees corporate employees lend a hand to frontline teams at major airports. This frees up time for frontline team members so they can focus on essential duties and getting guests on their journey as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Travellers are encouraged to plan ahead and arrive early during the Easter break with Thursday 17 April expected to be the busiest day, followed by Good Friday (18 April), Easter Monday (21 April) and Sunday 27 April, as holidaymakers head home.
Sweet treats for Easter travellers
Virgin Australia is pleased to offer complimentary 10g Lindt chocolate bunnies to guests on board and in its lounges for those travelling between Friday 18 April – Sunday 20 April in celebration of Easter this year.
