Stopovers and Connecting Flights | The number of Points required for your Reward Seat may be higher if you take a break in your journey, between your connecting flights (for example Perth to Cairns via Brisbane). A break in the journey for a purely Australian domestic itinerary occurs when onward travel does not take place on the same calendar day. If there is no break in your journey the number of Points required for your Reward Seat will be based on the total miles between the two cities. If you decide to take a break in your journey, the number of Points required is calculated on a per sector basis. For all other itineraries, including those containing a domestic to international connecting flight, a break occurs when a passenger arrives at an intermediate point and is not scheduled to depart within 24 hours of arrival. A Reward Seat is also calculated on a per sector basis when there is a change in class of travel within the journey. |
Children and Infants | Infants (under 2 years) not occupying a seat are free of charge. Children (2-11 years) occupying a seat must pay adult fare plus taxes, fees & surcharges. |
General Information | Changes and cancellation can be made via the Membership Contact Centre within their opening hours. Cancellation is available online for Reward Seats paid in full with points. Changes are permitted subject to Reward Seat availability. Carrier Surcharges may apply to your Reward Seat ticket. View more information. You must pay any fare difference between the fare for your new booking and the original fare. A fare difference may apply if there has been a change in the number of Points required for the Rewards Seat, if you need to change your booking to a different route which requires a greater number of Points, or if there has been a change in the applicable taxes, fees and carrier charges. Your new booking must be for travel on the Virgin Australia network within 12 months of the date that the original ticket was issued (the "OTD"). Any refunds must be obtained within 12 months of the OTD. Flight upgrades using Points or Complimentary Fare Upgrades cannot be used in conjunction with a Reward Seat. |
Combined Reward Seat and Any Seat Bookings
If you want to make a booking with a Reward Seat on one sector and an Any Seat on another sector, we recommend that you make two separate one-way bookings. This is because in the event that you make a combined booking, the most restrictive fare rules will apply (including if you need to change or cancel your booking later on).
If you have made a booking for a journey comprising of a Virgin Australia Reward Seat on one flight (sector) and using your Points for an Any Seat on another flight (sector), you will only be able to cancel your entire booking – you cannot cancel only one sector of the booking. The following rules will apply if you want to cancel your booking.
- To cancel, you need to contact the Membership Contact Centre on 13 18 75.
- You will not be able to partially cancel your booking. You will need to cancel your whole booking, and we will be able to assist you in rebooking your other sector (where required).
- If you cancel your booking, the fare rules of the more restrictive fare apply.
- Where you cancel your combined booking, and your Any Seat has more restrictive fare rules than your Reward Seat, only the base Points used to redeem the Reward Seat will be recredited to your Velocity account. Any additional value for your booking used for taxes, fees and carrier charges (regardless of whether you redeemed Points or used another form of payment) will be provided to you as a travel credit, depending on the type of fare you have booked for your Any Seat
- The above does not apply to any changes or cancellations to your combined booking made by Virgin Australia
- Credit and/or refund amount excludes booking and credit/debit card fees
