Have you heard about Virgin Australia Business Flyer?
It’s your company’s ticket to saving money on flights and Virgin Australia Lounge memberships, all while earning Velocity Points for your business. There’s even a fast-track to Velocity Pilot Gold status for eligible new members8.
But best of all, Virgin Australia Business Flyer is free to join. All you’ll need is your ABN.
Whether you’re beginning a new business venture or planning for your team’s triumphant return to the skies, it makes good sense to be a Virgin Australia Business Flyer member. With no ongoing membership fees and access to discounts from the get-go, Virgin Australia Business Flyer is undoubtedly good for business. Here’s how to make it work for yours.
Starting out with Virgin Australia Business Flyer
Once your Virgin Australia Business Flyer membership is approved, you’ll begin at Tier 19. That’s the entry-level category, for all businesses spending $0 to $9,999 per year on eligible Virgin Australia flights.*
You read that correctly. Your business doesn’t need any existing Virgin Australia flight bookings before signing up. Virgin Australia Business Flyer membership is also commitment-free, as you’re not locked into any minimum spending targets.
But whenever you’re ready to book business travel, these Virgin Australia Business Flyer perks will be ready and waiting:
- For every $1 spent on eligible Virgin Australia flights, earn 1 Velocity Point for the business1. This is over and above the Velocity Points (and Status Credits) earned by the traveller – so nobody misses out 2.
- Save 4% off Flex fares and 6% off Business Class fares on eligible Virgin Australia flights, year-round4.
- Get access to the Virgin Australia Business Flyer portal to make and manage bookings for your entire team.
- A dedicated account management team to support with Virgin Australia Business Flyer enquiries.
- Spend $2,000 or more on flights (excluding taxes and fees) within the first three months of joining Virgin Australia Business Flyer and two people in your business will receive the benefits of Velocity Gold Status for three months7.
- Purchase annual Virgin Australia Lounge memberships at the discounted price of $379, with no joining fee6.
Your business’s spends are automatically tracked – and Velocity Points awarded accordingly – when booking through the Virgin Australia Business Flyer portal. The same is true when securing flights through a Travel Management Company, and over the phone with Virgin Australia’s Guest Contact Centre when your registered ABN is provided.
Virgin Australia Business Flyer members can also supply their ABN when booking through the public Virgin Australia website. However, flight discounts aren’t available through this channel. We’d suggest using those other booking paths to be sure you’re getting the most from your membership.
Moving up to Tier 2 and Tier 3
Businesses that spend at least $10,000 per year on Virgin Australia flights get upgraded to Tier 2. This unlocks even more generous rewards in return for the company’s loyalty9.
Compared with Tier 1, Tier 2 delivers a 50% points boost. That’s 1.5 Velocity Points per $1 spent on eligible flights. Of course, these remain in addition to the Velocity Points earned by each traveller who is a Velocity Frequent Flyer member.
If your business’ flight spend exceeds $50,000 per year, its membership shifts to Tier 39. Offering 2 Velocity Points per $1 spent on Virgin Australia flights, this top level provides twice as many Velocity Points per dollar versus Tier 1.
Also, if your business was previously enrolled in Virgin Australia Accelerate, it’ll already be a Virgin Australia Business Flyer member.
What can a business do with Velocity Points?
Virgin Australia Business Flyer members initially earn Velocity Points under the business’ account. These can later be transferred into personal Velocity Frequent Flyer points once the Business points balance reaches 3,000 .3
That is, the business can send its points to the Velocity frequent flyer account of a company director or business owner. Alternatively, points could also be sent to an employee or contractor of the business.
A business can make as many points transfers as it likes, provided each transfer is for at least 3,000 Velocity Points.
Once the points have landed in an individual’s account, they can be spent just like any other Velocity Points.
For instance, an individual could use them towards flights as part of a future business trip (or holiday). Or perhaps, an upgrade from Virgin Australia Economy to Business Class as a treat.
5 tips to fast-track your Velocity Points with Virgin Australia Business Flyer
-
1. Use the Virgin Australia Business Flyer portal
Get in the habit of using the Virgin Australia Business Flyer portal to book the company’s flights: every time. This ensures the business will always earn Velocity Points, and that any eligible fare discounts are always applied.
-
2. Choose Virgin Australia whenever your business travels
Remember, businesses reach the more rewarding tiers of Virgin Australia Business Flyer as their spends similarly climb. By booking Virgin Australia every time, the company may graduate to those higher tiers much sooner. And in return, every dollar spent with Virgin Australia becomes even more rewarding.
-
3. Book Virgin Australia’s sharp Business Class fares
Let your employees travel like a boss! With one-way fares from $299**, Virgin Australia Business Class can be surprisingly affordable.
Roll up to priority check-in, and make a beeline for the Virgin Australia Lounge (where available). At the gate, skip the queues once more, and settle into Business Class. With a meal and drinks always included, there’ll be fewer expense receipts to process as well. That’s just smart business.
-
4. Make the most of Velocity Pilot Gold status
Unlock two Velocity Pilot Gold memberships when your business spends $2,000+ on Virgin Australia flights within the first three months of its Virgin Australia Business Flyer membership7.
Naturally, Velocity Pilot Gold membership includes great perks like airport lounge access and Fly Ahead, where you can request to get on an earlier flight, at no fee*** and on most Virgin Australia fares (excluding Economy Lite), you also earn bonus points. To be precise, a cool 75% bonus Velocity Points over and above what a Velocity Red member would take home.
-
5. Be smart with Velocity Points
Velocity Points have so much potential. They could save your business money, or allow travellers to fly in a greater degree of comfort.
Think about how the Velocity Points earned through Virgin Australia Business Flyer could perform best for your business. Have a plan, and see it through. Every time a team member travels for work, the business then gets closer to its own ‘points goal’.
Don’t forget to ask your accountant about any tax implications that may arise from the company’s participation in Virgin Australia Business Flyer, including Fringe Benefits Tax.
